Everyone, this is Oliver. Why ask him for his Home Truths?

Cos he started The Exploding Bakery - a bakery and cafe in Exeter, and a place where I’ve enjoyed some of the best coffee, cake, and chats.

1. The song to put a smile on your face…

The Look - Metronomy. It reminds me of when we first opened the bakery. The album was on repeat and it was such a fun time, a lot of partying at work. So it's a nostalgic smile it brings.

2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?

The Grand Budapest Hotel. It's an absolute masterpiece and a film to sort all moods as it crosses so many genres.

3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:

Succession. It's genius comedy writing from Jesse Armstrong, who co-wrote Peep Show, and perhaps the best thing on TV since The Wire.

4. The book you most recommend to people:

A Modern Way to Eat by Anna Jones. It's so good for people learning to cook with less meat.

5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list:

Making some cooking films with me in front of the camera. I'm painfully camera-shy, but now I just feel like, fuck it, have some fun.

6. The wild card you wish more people knew about… 

The Adam Buxton Podcast is always a good listen. His interview technique feels so much more genuine than other shows, both on TV and on radio.

7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?

Rib of beef. Devon produces some of the best beef in the world, also it's like cooking a perfect steak for a mass of people.

8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?

I really want to head to The Sportsman in Kent. It's a restaurant and a pub in one.

Prioritise your friends and family over work. Owning a business is so consuming it's hard not to take it seriously, but it's not as important as the people you love.
