Alex Chandler’s Home Truths

Alex Chandler Home Truths.jpeg

Everyone, this is Alex (Big A to his mates). Why ask him for his Home Truths? Cos it was worth it for the photo alone (see left), he lets me take the mick out of him far more than he should, and (most importantly) he’s one of my best friends.

1. The song to put a smile on your face…

Too many! Two in fact… Everybody Dance – Chic and Love Is In The Air – John Paul Young. Both remind me of long August summer evenings with friends.

2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?

Citizen Kane. A great character piece and a film in which every minute is perfectly planned. Orson Welles was light years ahead of his time.

3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:

The Mandalorian. If you’re looking for some escapism, and have just subscribed to Disney+, then you can’t do much better than this. If in doubt there are enough baby Yoda memes out there to keep you occupied for weeks.

"Mandalorian, look outside. They're waiting for you." Watch the brand new trailer for #TheMandalorian, an original Star Wars series. Start streaming Nov. 12,...

4. The book you most recommend to people:

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Perfect for those who love the coming-of-age genre and suffer from existential angst.

5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list

Pottery. Seth Rogen, Shia LaBouef and James Franco have added the title of ‘ceramicists’ to their CVs in recent years. I’d like to get behind a pottery wheel and start making some artisanal vases. It not only sounds like a great way to relax but also knocks a few buys off the Christmas list.

Seth posted on Instagram: "Smooth egg shaped pot. I find it bizarrely gratifying to put plants in pots I make." * See 348 photos and videos on their profile.

6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…

Yin Yoga. A slow-paced style of yoga that incorporates long holds and traditional Chinese medicine. It’s an incredibly powerful way to calm the mind, improve flexibility and release fascia.

7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?

In reality I’ll buy something from The grocer on Elgin and concentrate funds on the wine. But, in an alternate universe where I can cook… Crab and avocado on rye bread, followed by pan-fried cod and an Ottolenghi salad, and finished with salted caramel ice cream.

8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?

Core by Clare Smyth. My original booking was cancelled by corona.

P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…

The recipe for a Picante De La Casa. Fresno chilli pepper, coriander, Patrón tequila, agave, fresh lime juice.

C’est fini... Now what?
