Fraser Bashford's Home Truths
1. The song to put a smile on your face…
I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times) - Jamie xx… The title says it all.
2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?
The Replacements. A film that has it all and the one I’ve watched the most times myself.
3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:
Master of None. A great comedy-drama by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, all based in NYC and Italy.
4. The book you most recommend to people:
Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual by Michael Pollan. It’s a short book based on another by Pollan (In Defence of Food) and gives a great view on a sensible way of approaching food. Particularly relevant given the current situation even though it was written in 2009.
5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list
Learning more about wine. I’ve just started a series of online videos from The Wine Society which provide a great level of detail for beginners.
6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…
The ‘Giles Coren Has No Idea’ podcast. Coren is my favourite restaurant critic and this podcast with his wife Esther Walker looks at how he decides on a topic for his weekly column in The Times.
7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?
Gnocco fritto (squares of lard-enriched, leavened dough, fried in lard - sounds intense but actually delicious) with prosciutto di San Danielle and burrata.
8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?
Trullo in Highbury. I’ve only been once and have been desperate to return ever since. Great, no-nonsense Italian cooking.
P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…
Not that I wasn’t aware before, but how much money can be saved by eating at home!
C’est fini... Now what?
