Ben Keene's Home Truths

Everyone, this is Ben. Why ask him for his Home Truths?

Cos he co-founded Rebel Book Club - a global book club based around non-fiction books. Who better then, to ask for a few recommendations?

1. The song to put a smile on your face…

Mr Wendel - Arrested Development. One of the first albums I fell in love with (1992) and this tune always raises the serotonin levels.

2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?

The Commitments. Brilliant storytelling, great cast, incredible soundtrack.

3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:

Our Planet. This is what really matters and we all need to take 'earth' class as a priority. It's also a visual wonder.

4. The book you most recommend to people:

This is hard!

For fixing the world > Doughnut Economics.

For self-improvement > Atomic Habits.

For adventure > Born to Run.

5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list:

Launching a podcast to learn from people who build communities > TRIBE BUILDERS.

Why? Its an art form I've been working on for 15 years and I feel like I'm only just getting going. I want to learn from others who have done it and share the stories, tips and tactics as it becomes increasingly important.

6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…

The idea is well known but the practise of it more widely would relieve so much stress in society: The Stoic philosophy of focusing on what you can control and letting go of what you can’t. A good starting point, follow/read is Ryan Holiday.

7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?

Vegan Mexican Feast with lots of garden grown produce and giant tubs of homemade guac and salsa, eaten outdoors around a fire pit on a summer's evening washed down with Toast Ale & bottles of Montepulciano. Dark choc fondu on the fire to finish.

8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?

I'd cycle 20 miles to the coast and reward myself with a pale ale and pasta at Hive Beach Cafe, Burton Bradstock.

P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…

That women should be in charge of national crisis management.

C’est fini... Now what?
