Clayton Chambers' Home Truths

Clayton Chambers Home Truths.jpg

Everyone, this is Clayton. Why ask him for his Home Truths? Cos he’s co-founder of Elliot (a new and better commerce platform), lives in New York (which means Home Truths has gone global, no dramas), and always has a lot of insightful thoughts on brands and the future of retail (check out his Twitter).

1. The song to put a smile on your face…

Leave a Light by Glen Hansard. It reminds me of driving along the Irish coast... I miss it.

2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?

The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's a classic!

3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:

Sex and the City. Is there a more entertaining recommendation?

4. The book you most recommend to people:

Beastie Boys Book. Incredible deep dive into the emergence of hip hop and rap, and how it began in New York. Story is told through the lens of an OG group like The Beastie Boys.

5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list

Finance. Learning how to better manage money, what to invest in, how to save for the future, and so on. My friend, Justin Bridges, teaches an awesome class on SkillShare about personal finance.

6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…

I wish more people took seriously the influence mental health has in the workplace. Societally, we a) push people to their limits without understanding what actually motivates people to bring their best ideas and work to a job, and b) we discourage people from taking the time they need to recharge mentally.

7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?

Turkish food. 1000%. Çiya Sofrasi in Istanbul is one of my all-time biggest food inspirations.

8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?

June Wine Bar in Brooklyn. Natural wine. Charcuterie board. Feels like home.

P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…

I've learned that it's okay to have down-time for reflecting. There are so few moments in life (like this one) where we actually have a chance to breathe as we take stock of our life and the decisions we make. Take this as an opportunity, not a setback.

C’est fini... Now what?
