James Grinstead's Home Truths

James Grinstead Home Truths.jpeg

Everyone, this is James. Why ask him for his Home Truths? Cos he’s funny, doesn’t take himself too seriously (see left), and has a pretty eclectic taste (see below).

1. The song to put a smile on your face…

Just Tell Me - Toots & The Maytals. One of the big tunes from my honeymoon which takes me back there while we are cooped up at home.

2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?

One film?! Free Solo, which I have seen a few times already. Something to bring some excitement back into life being stuck indoors, and definitely gets the heart going!

One franchise? Fast and Furious. 1 through 8. Because… Vin Diesel.

3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:

Chef's Table. Whether you like to cook or not, these stories from the world's most renowned chefs about their journey to success are genuinely inspiring.

4. The book you most recommend to people:

Factfulness by Hans Rosling. It teaches you to see past the seemingly never-ending bad news in the press and recognise that the world is in fact a lot better than it seems (something hopeful in these gloomy times). It also shows you a way of thinking critically about what you see in the press in a time of fake news.

5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list

Definitely cooking. I’ve never given much time to it but always wanted to.

6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…

I love ‘The Daily’ podcast by The New York Times, but specifically their three part mini-series called The Jungle Prince which tells the fascinating story (now more like folklore) about the last of a royal bloodline in Delhi.

7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?

A big South African-style braai (BBQ) including boerewors, bobotie, Mrs Balls chutney, biltong etc. etc.!

8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?

Straight to Poppy's in Hammersmith for some eccentric, BYOB Thai food.

P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…

The true value of toilet paper.

C’est fini... Now what?
