Anna Foster's Home Truths
1. The song to put a smile on your face…
Too (JUST TOO) hard to pick just one! I have a playlist on Spotify which is a random collection. They have no rhyme or reason, except they make me smile. So you get four…
Gloria - Laura Branigan. Flashdance was one of the first films I remember watching (and is a damn good style reference).
Dancing with Myself - Billy Idol. For years I thought it was from the soundtrack from Marie Antoinette, turns out it wasn’t. Still a damn good song.
This Life - Vampire Weekend. My son sings this when he thinks no-one is listening, and he’s good.
Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield. This is my karaoke song. Enough said!
2. You can only watch one film for the next three months… What is it?
God these are hard! It would have to be one where the mise en scène is so stylised that I could watch it again and again and learn something new. Probably a film by Wes Anderson… The Grand Budapest Hotel.
3. The TV series you want everyone to watch:
Fleabag. Just in case there is one person on the plant who hasn’t watched it.
4. The book you most recommend to people:
The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell. I had to start reading it again halfway through because I couldn’t believe how brilliant it was… I then devoured everything he has written.
5. The subject you’ve put off exploring that’s now top of your to-do list:
If I had extra time (which I thought I would!) I would finally put photos in albums. We take so many photos yet it’s digital and they live on your phone or in the ‘cloud’… As a child I used to love to spend hours looking through our family photo albums and I want to hand this same pleasure over to my children. I started, and then I stopped around 2012. I have 8 years to catch up on.
6. The wild card you wish more people knew about…
The Class by Taryn Toomey. It’s intimidating, then invigorating, then incredible! Thank you, Ivana Giachino for the recommendation.
7. We’re allowed dinner parties again… What are you cooking?
Aperitif: Negroni.
Starter: Charcuterie and cheese plate, with a glass of French Picpoul De Pinet.
Main: Lamb, spinach and feta filo, with an Austrian Pinot Noir.
Pudding: Cheesecake (my mum’s recipe, nothing comes close), with Vin Santo.
8. Everything’s back open. What’s the first coffee shop, restaurant or pub you’re visiting?
Madame Pigg on Kingsland Road in Dalston.
P.S. What you know now, that you wish you knew then…
Meditation is an amazing thing and it IS worth the time and effort.
C’est fini... Now what?
